Fox Valley Technical College

Name of Sim Center: Health Simulation & Technology Center
Location: Appleton, WI
Sim Center Highlights: The Health Simulation & Technology Center (HSTC) at FVTC is a three-story facility which is 60,630 sq. ft. The HSTC training facility was designed to train entry level healthcare providers along with practicing health care professionals from the community. The center provides for changing and emerging technologies in the healthcare environment while addressing the need for more clinical experiences for a variety of health care workers. Simulation provides diverse educational experiences to enhance and enrich learning for our Dental, EMS, Medical Assistant, Nursing, OTA and Phlebotomy students.

On the first floor, you will find our 6 room virtual hospital. The hospital features an 8 bed ER that provides realistic training with our 10 Human Patient Simulators. Each hospital room has a corresponding control room and debriefing room. The hospital rooms have audio-visual technology to enhance the simulation experience for our students. Training in our center replicates clinical experiences, increases student critical thinking and confidence and places an emphasis on patient safety.

The second floor, focuses on training students in a replicated clinic or laboratory setting. It features a 6 room outpatient clinic and a phlebotomy lab. Students participate in simulated training experiences to enhance their education.

The third floor features training labs for rehabilitative therapy and home health care. The laboratories include a mock home setting including a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. These areas will assist the students to learn and teach adaptive home strategies to their clients and are utilized to replicate emergencies in a home setting using human patient simulators.
