Developing Simulated Learning Experiences

Dear Professional Educator,

My name is Deborah Johnston. I am writing to the list to invite you to participate in a survey about

simulation use in nursing education.

I am a Master’s in Nursing Education Student at Daemen College in Amherst, NY. I am in the process of

working on my thesis project for completion of my degree. My project title is: Orientation to Simulation

Program for the Entry Level Nursing Student. My research question is: Does a planned orientation to

simulation for the entry level nursing student result in an enhanced learning outcome? The survey is a

part of this project and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.

The criteria for participation includes:

1. Age of 22 to 75 years of age

2. Nursing educators with a minimum of a BS degree

3. Must be able to read and understand English

4. Educator of nursing students in an ADN or BS RN nursing program

5. Must be faculty/staff who have direct contact with students in their first semester of simulation

The results of this survey will help me to gain insight into the simulation educational needs of entry level

nursing students as perceived by their educators. Your feedback will enable me to evaluate if a simulation

orientation program for the entry level nursing student has an impact on learner outcomes.

If you agree to participate in this survey, your participation is completely voluntary. You have the right

not to answer any question(s), and you may stop your participation at any time. All your responses

through survey monkey will remain anonymous, and you will not be identified by your responses. Upon

completion of this project, all anonymous responses will be stored in a locked safe in my home for one

year, then shredded. If you choose not to complete this survey, you will not be penalized in any way.
