Model Plan for Simulation Lab
by Jane Pollock - Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 10:16 AM

I have been charged with the task of putting together a model for a simulation lab. We currently have a working simulation lab that functions for all classes with high fidelity simulators. My task is designing a model for staffing, running of the lab. This needs to include staffing ratios, duties, hours, etc.

I would appreciate any/all suggestions on this matter. Do you know of any such models? And are these accessible for consult and/or reference? Thanks for your help!

There are many models being used. Those which have a large component of simulation through out the curriculum have a simulation coordinator/director. Many also have other staff to support the simulation efforts. The others often do the scheduling, ordering supplies,set-up and take-down. Many have a full-time assistant with responsibilities to 'run' the high-fidelity simulators during scenarios so faculty can concentrate on facilitating the eseeions and working with the students. AT BYU, we hire students to run the simulator (they take to the 'computer' very easily) and they also assist in set-up and take-down.
