Moulage without food
by Kathleen Atchison - Sunday, December 19, 2010, 11:02 PM

When I heard that someone got bugs in their simulation lab due to the food/sugar in the moulage, I became interested in moulage that doesn't use food items.

I have made good sputum out of lubricanting jelly and green tempura paint.  And, I made a good sputum/pus recipe out of lubricating jelly and yellow tempura paint.  Of course I can make bruises and abrasions with makeup and wounds with gel effects.  (I color the wounds with red tempura paint.)

Does anyone have any other recipes that they use that are non-food based?

I'm working on a gel effects post partum hemorrhage.  (Instead of using cherries.)  I'm also trying to find a way to make melena/meconium without using food.

For postpartum hemorrhage, we use Flarp noise putty, available from any WalMart in the toy section for $1 per can.  Mix with food coloring or paint; makes realistic, long-lasting clots.  Can also be molded into a placenta.
