This course discusses an important consideration for a simulation experience: increasing realism or fidelity. Essential concepts and terms are defined, along with identifying different methods to increase realism. Best practices for creating a high level of realism are presented. The Educator’s Toolkit includes recipes, resources, and references for this topic.

Mindi Anderson, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC is the simulation coordinator and an assistant Professor at the University of Texas Arlington School of Nursing. Dr. Anderson has presented widely on the topic of simulation and is engaged in research on the use of simulation, particularly with multidisciplinary team training and expert modeling. Her other major simulation research topic is the use of standardized patients in nursing. Dr. Anderson is currently the principal investigator on several research grants related to simulation.
and clinical learning at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She has received research grants from the Mu Epsilon chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International for her investigations of student learning outcomes and NCLEX preparation using simulation and other methods of learning. She shares her experiences through publications and presentations on the state and national level. Andy has worked with numerous nursing programs in New York State developing simulation centers and integrating simulation into nursing curriculums.
