About Us

Simulation Innovation Resource Center

The purpose of the Simulation Innovation and Resource Center (SIRC) project, a collaborative alliance between the NLN and Laerdal Medical, is “to develop a “community” of nurse educators who can effectively use simulation to promote and evaluate student learning and who dialogue with one another in an effort to advance simulation in nursing education.”

The project began in 2007 with a call for simulation experts; 169 nurse educators applied and nine were chosen.  They represented a variety of types of educational institutions in geographic locations around the country.  Led by the project director, and together with the international participants and the technical team, this group developed the various areas of the SIRC and the courses that prepare nurse educators to design, implement, and evaluate the use of simulations in nursing education .

All of the funds from the purchase of the courses will be reinvested in the maintenance of the SIRC and development of new courses.

The SIRC launched on June 12, 2008 with three online courses.  Six more debuted at the NLN’s Summit in San Antonio, September 17-20, 2008. In June, 2009, two additional courses have brought the total up to 11.
