We are tring to simulate both situations and cannot find a solution to use on the glucometers to help simulate this.  Any advice?

We have successfully used 7-10 ML fake blood solution and 1 ML (or less- you have to try it on your meter) of D5W and it will consistently (once you figure out your ratio) read 210-240...Play around with the ratio. HYPO, I have not figured out unless you mix fake blood with the LOW control. That is the only way I know. Michelle Sherlin, Holyoke Community College

Interesting question. Anecdotally I have heard of falsely high readings when the patient's fingers had glucose on them prior to the test. That makes me wonder if a high concentration of D50 and distilled water, and a low concentration of D50 and distilled water would work. Adding coloring and a bit of a thickener to simulate blood would further add to the realism, if the idea even works. I will play around with it and report back.
