Long Term Care Simulations
by Martin Cohen - Friday, April 20, 2012, 8:38 PM
I'm looking for input/data to develop scenarios to avoid hospital readmissions. Particularly early signs and symptoms for CHF and Urosepsis. Any help or direction greatly appreciated. Thanks Martin

I have done the urosepsis simulation for just the reason you indicated. Nary a person picked up on it. I will be repeating it this week, will let you know the outcome of that simulation.

We also use a urosepsis scenario, there is also a scenario in which the client falls and has symptoms of a fractured hip, and another client is having symptoms of an MI. These work great for practical nurse students to prepare them for working in long term care. The objectives involve notification of the appropriate team members and transfer to an acute facility. They perform interventions as ordered until EMS arrives.

How did the participants respond when the scenario was repeated?
