Distilled water

I wanted to ask about meti-products and distilled water. Since we can run only distilled water through our manikin, how are people doing that when the scenario calls for an IV with Dextrose for example?

Thank you,

Thalia

Hi Thalia,

We do not have meti products; however we can not infuse anything with dexrose into our mannequins either. When we have a scenario that would call for running dextrose, we simply make a label that says Dexrose 5% in Water (or whatever you need) and then use it to cover over the normal saline label on the IV bag. Hope that helps!

Google images is a great resource for medication and IV labels.

Thalia

You can get "demi" doses from pocketnurse that are water but come labeled as the Dextrose. We sometimes us the labels as the previous person posted also.

Use a bag that is for the fluids ordered and fill it up with distilled water.  That way they get the distilled water with the appearance of fluids ordered.  We put a dab of hot glue into the plug to seal it back up.  They will be able to really puncture the bag without having to purchase those already made up.

This is such a great idea!  Thank you for sharing.  Are you using any particular type of glue.  Is this a low temp glue gun?
